Heavy rain showers in Arunachal Pradesh triggered flash floods across the state, damaging at least 18 residential quarters and an under-construction retaining wall. Several regions also witnessed landslides, affecting road connectivity.
According to data from Guwahati’s Regional Meteorological Centre and the Meteorological Centre in Itanagar, Lower Subansiri’s Yazali recorded 72.8 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours, causing flash floods in the adjacent regions.
Significant destruction was caused to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Colony in Posa, Yazali, and Keyi Panyor districts of Arunachal Pradesh, sources told CNN-News18.
The main highway bridge was also washed away in the flash floods, and rescue operations were hampered due to excessive rainfall.
The intense rain showers also caused landslides in several regions, with residents seemingly rushing to seek shelter in safer places.
According to meteorologists, flash floods were caused by an intense cloudburst-like rainfall event, India Today reported, adding the sudden surge of rain at isolated places could trigger flash floods.
District administrations and concerned departments have been advised to stay vigilant and initiate precautionary measures. Disaster management agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are currently monitoring the situation.
